Are any of you watching Fashion Star? Fashion designers mentored by Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos showcase their designs on a runway and then face buyers from Macys, Saks Fifth Avenue and H&M hoping to get a bid on their garments. I’m such a dork that when a designer gets a bid, I literally get choked up with excitement. I think I let out a little squeal lol. The designers that do not get a bid are up for elimination at the end of each show.
The most amazing part of this show is the concept. The show was recorded last year, the designers created looks for spring/summer, and in the months since, the buyers have been stocking up on the designs they’ve purchased. Literally, the show airs on a Tuesday night (on NBC at 10pm), and you can purchase the garments in stores the very next day! So fun!
I am such a fan of the mentors in action behind the scenes. Jessica is clearly so savvy on upcoming trends that will sell to mass markets, while Nicole is flawless and hilarious as she encourages the designers to be unique and innovative – both points of view are clearly reflected in their popular brands.
