Friday’s Fab Five – Milkshake Recipes

Cake Batter Milkshake Recipe

Happy Friday everyone! I am SOOOOO excited that the weekend has finally arrived. My husband isn’t traveling this weekend, so I’m looking forward to a whole lotta R&R, and some good “do nothing” family time. And bonus that it’s Easter this Sunday! Big smiles over here!

It’s finally starting to feel like spring outside, also know at my house as “milkshake season”. We don’t frequent drive-thrus very often, but when we do, a milkshake is a must-add-on to our order lol. I especially love making milkshakes at home, and probably will more often thanks to a few delicious milkshake recipes, shared below :)

PS – two of the milkshake recipes below and “adult only” because you know I love myself a good cocktail here and there ESPECIALLY in milkshake form, although the alcohol is optional.

1. I can’t wait to give this super festive {3 Ingredient} cake batter milkshake recipe by Cooking Classy a try. I hope it’s as good as it is beautiful!

Bananas Foster Milkshake Recipe

2. For the most part, the only sweets I like is anything chocolate, with the exception of this bananas foster milkshake recipe. You literally make bananas foster and then blend it with ice cream and a little bit of spiced rum! Yum!!!

Oreo Cookies And Cream Milkshake Recipe

3. I have to agree with David at Spiced Blog, “This classic Oreo milkshake is quite simply one of the best desserts ever!”

Red Velvet Milkshake Recipe

4. Using a box of red velvet cake mix, Chocolate Chocolate and More {she had me at the name of her blog} whips up an amazing red velvet milkshake!

Mudslide Milkshake Recipe Cocktail

5. This mudslide milkshake recipe, by yours truly, is one of my all time favorites that I go to often. I took a traditional mudslide martini, blended with ice cream, and sucked it down with a straw. Proceed with caution… they go down quickly lol.

I hope you’ll share your favorite milkshake recipe below! Please also see my cocktail recipes where you’ll find lots of inspiration for your next “adult beverage”.

howToStyleTheBallerinaTrend

We’re so excited about the return of the Sydne Style A-Z Trend Guide, and even more excited that she decided to share in our #FundayLinkup. This week, she’s on to the letter B, so she’s showing us how to style the Ballerina trend and does so in a whimsical layered tulle skirt that will bring out your inner princess. Check out two ways she’s wearing the trend in the video at her series, featuring new episodes every Tuesday and Thursday. Thanks so much for sharing your style with us, Sydne!

Fab Fatale’s Linkup Favs

It was nearly impossible to narrow my favs down to only 5, but here’s what really caught my eye this week:

  • No Small Life shows us how to DIY a shiny silver side table for free. I had no idea what object she used until I read the how-to!
  • Tracy’s Notebook of Style shares her Friday Favorites, all under $25. I love light neutrals with hints {rather than pops} of color for spring!
  • Thrift Stories dressed up in gingham, {deemed the pattern of the season by most major fashion websites} topped with an amazing off white J Crew peacoat!
  • I believe I have all of these head-to-toe pieces in my closet, so now I know what I’ll be wearing on Monday. Thanks for the super stylish outfit of the day, Effortless Lady.
  • Ohhh, here’s another “look to love for spring” from my latest blog crush, Rag Trends!

The Saturday Steal – For Love And Lemons Antigua Mini Dress Look For Less

For Love And Lemons Antigua Mini Dress Look For Less

I was browsing Lulus.com the other day and found an exact look for less match of the beyond popular, amongst celebrities and fans of the brand, For Love & Lemons Antigua Mini Dress! The nude mesh gives the illusion that there is a lot less coverage, as though the lace is the only thing keeping this dress together. It’s super fun, flirty, and a look that may be a bit too dangerous for most.

The For Love And Lemons Antigua Mini Dress, available for $224, and the look for less, with a price tag of only $56, are both available in white, red, and black. I LOVE the way DailyLook styled it with a red high low maxi skirt!

Oh Toodles! Mickey Mouse Birthday Party

Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

There was a mouse in the house last weekend! We had a blast celebrating John’s 2nd birthday with friends, family, cake, and a bounce house! I just can’t believe my baby is 2 already! They told me it would go by too fast, so I savored every moment trying to make time stand still, but it’s all flying by faster every day. He promised me he’d stay my little baby forever and somehow, all of a sudden, we’re celebrating his 2nd birthday! sniff, sniff

I slowly, but surely converted our home into a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse birthday party. Our get together was on Sunday afternoon, so I started decorating on Friday evening. Every morning, John would come out of his room saying, “this, this, this” and pointing at the new decor. I tried to explain to him it was for his Mickey Mouse birthday party, but all that really registered was Mickey lol.

Last year, for John’s lemonade birthday party, I cared way too much about getting everything perfect – the food, the decor, the cocktails, the pics – everything! This year, I decided to just let go and enjoy myself. I did a lot of pointing, rather than jumping up, when someone needed something. I also had a friend take over bartending the margarita machine, so the adults had a great time while I just made my rounds enjoying everyone’s company! I think everyone, especially “baby” John, really enjoyed his Mickey Mouse birthday party! I hope you enjoy the details below.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Invitation

I love these chalkboard, vintage style, Mickey Mouse birthday invitations found at the PartyPrintouts Etsy shop. They were only $13 for a fully customizable printable that I was able to download and take to Staples for printing and cutting. I think I paid $27 total for these super cute invitations!

Mickey Mouse Door Sign Come Inside It's Fun Inside

I love this Mickey Mouse door sign, saying the popular clubhouse phrase, “Come Inside, It’s Fun Inside” courtesy of LittleDawgDesign at Etsy! This set the tone for our party goers as they arrived at the “clubhouse”. Tiffany also made the fireplace banner featured below.

Mickey Mouse Garland

Once inside, the main entrance of our home and kitchen was draped in this festive Mickey Mouse garland, courtesy of DCBannerDesigns at Etsy. Our invitations had a vintage feel to it, rather than a clubhouse feel to it, using just black, yellow, and red color palette and flat shapes rather than 3-D objects, so I loved that these colors and the flat shapes were worked into the garland and the cake.

Mickey Mouse Party Favor Bags

The Mickey Mouse banner was customized for John, also by LittleDawgDesign at Etsy! I think you can also use it as a high chair banner, if you’d like.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Ideas Polka Dot Balloons

I picked up these red and white polka dot and black and white polka dot balloons at Hobby Lobby. We added 3 to the mailbox and the rest floated around our party area in the screened in back porch.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Ideas Table Runner

A lot of the party decor for our back porch was inspired by the Bower Power blog including the Mickey Mouse fabric featured in the table runner found at Hobby Lobby, the coke bottles {because they’re Mickey Mouse colors}, and the favor bags {below}! She had so many amazing ideas that I didn’t even have time for, so make sure you check out her blog for more inspiration! I filled a small ice bucket with juice boxes and a trifle bowl full of squeeze pouches.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Ideas, Printable Place Cards, Food Cards and a Free Downloadable Mickey Mouse Font

I picked up a bit of inspiration from Play.Party.Pin as well, including the food place card printables. I used the blank card printable and the Walter Mickey Mouse font. Our Mickey Mouse food included Clubhouse Cupcakes, Ludwig’s Lemonade, Minnie’s Mac and Cheese, Sparky’s Sweet Tea, Pluto’s Potato Salad, and Butch’s Baked Beans. We also had a main dish of Hot Diggity Dogs, all served in these fun {and color appropriate} red and white paper food trays.

Mickey Mouse Red Velvet Birthday Cupcakes with Oreos Ears

The Mickey Mouse cupcakes were inspired from my friend Lyuba at Will Cook For Smiles! These red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and Oreo ears were delicious and festive. Lyuba’s frosting swirl looked WAY better than mine, but I’m just happy the ears stood up outside on a warm Florida afternoon lol. I picked up the red cupcake cups, paper fans, and black cardboard cupcake stand at Party City. The Mickey Mouse sing and giggle doll was a gift to my kiddo and decor for the party.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

Sneaking in a little taste test before we served the cake.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

The cake, the cake, the cake. I am so sorry to anyone that has ever made me a chocolate cake because I declare this cake by Tiniest Empire Cupcakes the best chocolate cake I have ever had in my entire life, and I consider myself a chocolate cake connoisseur. For the Mickey Mouse birthday cake, I opted for a design found at Cake Central that coordinated with the vintage style invitations, using solid red, white, and black colors, and flat fondant dots and Mickey heads that matched the garland. My boy doesn’t get sugar often {at all really}, and he sucked his fingers clean lol. I mean, he really went into a trance over this chocolate cake that was topped with a super thick ganache layer and then a yummy fondant!

Mickey Mouse Birthday Bounce House

The joy on that kids face. Pure joy when he is in a bounce house. He lived in this thing the majority of the party and slept so well that night lol.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Bounce House

John’s friend helping the birthday boy put his shoes back on as he exited the bounce house. How sweet are little boys??? Sugar!

Mickey Mouse DIY Birthday Party Favor Bags and Ideas

The Mickey Mouse favor bags were also inspired by the Bower Power blog. I picked up red and white polka dot ribbon, 3 sheets of black paper, and two sheets of white paper for 12 party bags. The bags are just inexpensive paper lunch bags, rather than the pricier kraft bags sold at Michaels. For the dots, I used a round medium circle punch.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Ideas

According to John, his best buddy and neighbor must arrive before the party and stay after everyone has left, and should preferably be at our house at all hours everyday lol. If they’re not together, John is crying his name. By request, they’re having their own little after party here with cereal bars, because clearly there wasn’t enough to eat at the party lol.
