Restoration Hardware Outdoor Wall Lantern Look For Less

Restoration Hardware Outdoor Sconce Lantern Look For Less

While building our house, lighting was by far the most fun, yet difficult project. I shopped a website that sells all major brands of lighting and if I was looking for a bronze chandelier for our living room, I would have to look at all 2,000 options of bronze chandeliers because even though I found one I love on page 199, what if the most amazing chandelier ever was on page 200 lol. I did this for every piece of lighting in our house!

When it came to our outdoor front porch lighting, I knew exactly what I wanted, rustic bronze lantern scones in the style of Restoration Hardware. I actually didn’t look at Restoration Hardware’s site in the beginning because I knew their prices were more than I could afford. I found the Minka Lavery Crossroads 2-Light Outdoor Lantern Sconce first, not knowing it was a Restoration Hardware look for less, but they were sold out EVERYWHERE. I did a google search to find something similar and that’s when I discovered the more expensive Restoration Hardware Cambridge Sconce for $370.

The two outdoor sconces are nearly identical {bronze, clean lines, no scroll work, no beveled clear glass}, but the look for less is more than half the cost at $159! When you’re buying two sconces, that price makes you feel like you’re getting a buy one, get one free deal of the Restoration Hardware sconce! For their slight difference in style, I actually prefer the look for less, which made it a win win considering the price. Luckily, the builder was able to find the look for less in a store across town for me, so all was well. I was able to put the money I saved into my amazing office chandelier ;)

Manicure Mondays – Summer White Nails

Summer Manicure - White Nails

I often use white nail polish as the base for my nail art {palm tree manicure, tribal manicure, 4th of July manicure, another 4th of July manicure, holiday snow manicure}. However, every time I apply the white cream polish, I just want to skip the nail art because the polish is just so perfect on its own, especially against a summer tan. Today was the day that I skipped the art and kept my nails clean and white. The nail art I planned on sharing today will have to wait because for now, I’m just so into this super fresh white summer manicure.

Today’s white cream polish is two coats of Julep’s Brigitte. This polish was super easy to work with and went on perfectly in two coats. When working with white polish, it is often streaky, so I recommend letting the first coat dry as much as possible before adding the second coat to prevent bald spots near the cuticle.

PostalPix “Aluminum Print” Giveaway

Memba this Instagram pic? lol. I was at a pool party with my husband and baby John, left them splashing and frolicking to go babysit for a friend, and totally forgot to leave the diaper bag. Oops! I figured I was just gonna let daddy figure this one out since I couldn’t go back, and this is how they returned… a puppy pee pee pad and some scotch tape, courtesy of the pool party hostess, for the ride home LOL. I snapped a pic right away, Instagrammed it, and now it will forever be treasured on my desk in the form of a beautiful aluminum print from PostalPix.

I’ve blogged about PostalPix a couple of times {see my DIY Instagram wall art and my DIY Instagram cork frames}, so we thought it was about time we team up for a giveaway. PostalPix sent me an aluminum Instagram print, I chose this pic for obvious reasons, and they are also going to send a 8×8 square or 8×10 {winner’s choice} aluminum print to one lucky reader!

PostalPix is an app for your Android or iPhone that allows you to upload pics directly from your phone’s photo library and have the prints sent to your house days later at a very affordable price. No more trying to get your pics onto a flash drive and printed at your local pharmacy. I actually put in my grandparent’s address and have pics of the baby sent directly to their house. This is the first time I’ve ordered an aluminum print and I LOVE it. The colors are so vibrant and the rounded corners are beautiful and safe.

Coming soon to PostalPix, look for the next app update where you’ll be able to connect your Instragram account and choose pics directly from your profile!

Iron Skillet Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Iron Skillet Pineapple Upside Down Cake Recipe

When I found out that pineapple is the international symbol for welcome and friendship, I thought a pineapple upside down cake would be a perfect gift for our neighbors across the street. This cake is a super easy semi-homemade recipe using a box of white cake mix and a can of sliced pineapples. The really cool part about it, is you pour it all into an iron skillet and bake. I’d love to try this recipe with other fruit on top as well.

Iron Skillet Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Iron Skillet Pineapple Upside Down Cake

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 (20 ounce) can sliced pineapple
  • 10 maraschino cherries
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix

  1. Melt the butter over medium high heat in the iron skillet. Remove from the heat and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly to cover the butter.
  2. Next, arrange pineapple rings around the bottom of the pan, one layer deep. Place a maraschino cherry into the center of each pineapple ring.
  3. Prepare the cake mix as directed by the manufacturer, substitute some of the pineapple juice for some of the liquid in the directions. Pour the batter over the pineapple layer.
  4. Bake as directed by the cake mix directions. Cool for 10 minutes, then carefully turn out onto a plate. Do not let the cake cool too much or it will be stuck to the pan.

Do you have any interesting ideas for a housewarming gift? Just the week before, I made an “Italian Dinner” themed welcome basket, complete with a tiramisu and bottle of wine, for the neighbors that moved in a week after us. I love surprising people with food! lol.

Ghost Chair Look For Less

Ghost Chair Clear Desk Dining Look For Less

My office has a lot going on in such a small place. I really need it to function for all of my bloggy activities, so every corner has a purpose. The one thing that I added to the office, that’s probably more style than function, was add a desk in the middle of the room because I thought it would look so glam under my sparkly chandelier! With so much going on in such a small place, I knew a ghost chair (clear, usually plastic or acrylic) would be perfect so that it doesn’t add to the noise in the room. It is a full size chair, but because it’s clear, it looks as though it doesn’t take up any space at all.

While on the hunt for my ghost desk chair, I was surprised to find two nearly identical chairs for not so identical prices! I really see no difference in these two clear chairs, they are the same design and material, but the Kartell Victoria Ghost Chair at Wayfair has a price tag of $370, while the Victoria Inspired Ghost Chair look for less is only $60. Of course I ordered it immediately. It came in yesterday and looks amazing in my office. In the pic, it looks smokey gray, but it’s not. I think that was just their studio lighting because it’s perfectly clear. I hope to add a little fluffy, faux sheep fur cushion for extra style and comfort!

If you can afford the more expensive Kartell Victoria Ghost Chair, they do come in a bunch of fun transparent and opaque colors!
