Manicure Mondays – Outline Border Nails

I wish I could remember where I saw outline nails for the first time. I feel like it was in an ad or on the runway, but I can’t seem to find it for the life of me.
I was so excited to try the outline nails trend and went for it with another neon and neutral manicure {more neon and neutrals at my ombre nails}. As I did for my Chanel nail art, I put down the outline color first, the neon pink nail polish, and then filled in with the neutral leaving a small gap of pink around the cuticle and sides. I used OPI’s Did You’ear About Van Gogh? because it has a wide brush, and fewer strokes means cleaner lines.
I took the neutral all the way across my tips, allowed that to dry well, and then came back and connected the outline by free-handing the tips with more pink. I was shocked at how easy it was to free-hand a straight line at my tips with a few short strokes. To prevent smearing, allow the mani to dry fairly well before topping with a quick dry top coat.

I’d love to hear from you all. Is this outline border manicure something you would try?

Nail Polish Storage

I had four requirements when shopping for nail polish storage that I thought would be easy to find, but my search went on for weeks. I was looking for the following:
- Clear, almost acrylic storage so I could see all of my polish
- Drawers for easy access
- Stackable storage to make use of vertical space
- Height not much taller than my tallest nail polish bottles {my Stripe Rites} so that I don’t waste space.
What I found was large crystal clear shoe drawers at an affordable price of only $13.99 each. Each drawer fits about 60 polishes and they all stack nicely into my armoire. Whenever I want to do a mani, I open the door to my armoire, find the drawer that contains the color I’m looking for, and the drawers slide out for easy access.

In addition to meeting all of my expectations, these drawers have slots for optional dividers so that I could easily sort all of my drawers by color. One customizable divider set can separate a drawer once vertically and/or twice horizontally for up to 6 spaces per drawer. I buy one divider set per two drawers so that I can mix-and-match the pieces.

Is your nail polish collection as out of control as mine lol? If so, how do you store your nail polish? I hope you’ll share your storage tips.

Manicure Mondays – Zoya Melodie

Happy Manicure Mondays! How was your weekend? Mine was good and lazy, mostly just sitting around watchin the Olympics. Gold medals and world records get me all choked up lol. There have definitely been some amazing “made for movie” moments.
Today I thought I’d do a simple, pretty, summer nail art manicure. I love using a nail stamp to put a flat color over a sparkly polish, there’s something about the combo that gives the manicure the illusion of depth. For this manicure I used Zoya Melodie, the perfect nude beige peach pink shimmer {swatched on it’s own below}, topped with a light blue Konad polish
and Bundle Monster’s plate 210
flower design.

So what do you all think of my summer nail art? Is this floral nail stamping design something you would try?

Manicure Mondays – Zoya Beach And Surf Giveaway

Update: And the winner is… Ashley C.! Congratulations! I will email you shortly to get you set up with the giveaway. This contest is now closed to further entries. Thanks so much to everyone that entered.
Previous: I have such an exciting giveaway for you all today. I picked up Zoya’s Beach and Surf collections, and I’m giving one lucky reader a set of these collections as well. Zoya’s Beach and Surf collections for Summer 2012 are gorgeous. Would you expect anything less from one of the most trend-setting brands in nail polish?
Please note that all swatches were pic’ed in direct sunlight.

Zoya Beach is such a fun collection of 5 creams and 1 surprise shimmer. My favorites are Wednesday, a beautiful turquoise cream nail polish and Tracie, the shimmer because I’m so hooked on pistachio shades this summer.

Wednesday is a faded medium turquoise nail polish with a green undertone and an opaque cream finish. A very stylish shade with a funky yet easy to wear vintage look.

Shelby is a soft but colorful cherry blossom pink nail polish with an opaque cream finish. A light girly pink with enough tint to keep it from looking pastel or washed out.

Reagan is a deep, cool fuchsia pink nail polish with subtle blue undertone and an opaque cream finish. Reagan packs a lot of color without being excessively bright and is soft but not overly muted.

Lara is a medium magenta-rose pink nail polish with subtle yellow undertone and a soft cream finish. A soft shade, but with a candy-like pop of color to ensure that it doesn’t look flat.

Arizona is a softened bright citrus orange nail polish with a muted cream finish. This orange is bright but also very soft, giving it a fun, orange sherbet-like look on the nails.

Tracie is a faded, yellow-toned pistachio green nail polish with delicate silvery shimmer for a frosted pearl finish. Great for a fresh-looking twist on vintage avocado green.

Zoya Surf collection is nearly an exact match of Zoya Beach collection, yet all are shimmers. Unlike Beach, Surf has one less pink and adds in a beautiful deep purple.

Zuza is a deep, saturated, oceanic turquoise nail polish with gold and silver metallic shimmer and a foil-like finish. A beachy, colorful, foil-like shade with the perfect balance between blue and green.

Rory is a medium mauve pink nail polish with lilac tones, gold and silver reflective metallic shimmer accents, and a foil-like finish. The gentle color of this polish gives the foil finish a softened appearance.

Myrta is a warm medium orange coral nail polish with red undertone, gold and silver metallic shimmer, and a foil-like finish. The coral color of Myrta is soft, but the foil finish gives it added warmth and glow.

Meg is a light yellow-toned mermaid green nail polish with heavy gold and silver metallic shimmer and a sparkling foil finish. A light and fresh looking green with added sparkle and shine.

Kimber is a rich, bright and saturated medium magenta pink nail polish with strong gold metallic shimmer and a foil-like finish. A huge hit of color and a shot of shiny gold metal make this polish look electric.

Carly is a very rich, bold, red-toned dark purple nail polish with iridescent red and silver metallic shimmer and a dense foil finish. The bold color and sparkling foil finish make Carly like gift wrap for your nails.
