Boho Chic Living Room Reveal – Design c/o Havenly

beyond excited about my new boho chic, rustic coastal dining and living room. we started with a beautiful ceiling with beams to set the tone. added in navy botanical artwork featuring fern and split leaf monstera palm, a fiddle fig plant, a light blue distressed oriental area rug, and purple accents.

I am beyond excited to finally reveal my boho chic rustic living room with you all today. I reached out to Havenly to see if they would like to collaborate with me again and the third time was such a charm! The process is so fun, affordable, and they “get me”. Due to expense, I’ve never had the opportunity to work with a designer in-person, but I imagine Havenly’s online experience is as close as you can get to having someone walk through your home and guide you through the process.

Two years ago, Havenly designed a fun Surf Shack toddler room for John, and last year, we teamed up to decorate Sydney’s beautiful, magical, whimsical baby girl nursery. Now, I’m so excited to finally share my living room reveal, and guess what, in a couple of months we’ll be featuring my husband’s masculine “man cave” office. Clearly, I’m addicted to Havenly!

I asked my Havenly designer Shelby G. for a boho chic, rustic living room, with a color palette of primarily navy, with hints of greenery, splashes of purple, chrome, and rustic wood elements. We already had a starting point with the tongue and groove ceiling covered in beams, but we still needed to infuse a bit more character and color. I love the beach, but we live on a lake, so I wanted decor that was abstract – no ropes, no anchors, no kitchy literal by the sea or lake artwork. Shelby found a beautiful water horizon piece of art from one of my FAVORITE shops, Minted, that could be a lake or beach, and then the botanical art in the dining room is a mix of fern and split leaf Monstera palm leaves.

If you’d like more information on the entire process of working with Havenly, please see my previous post documenting the entire process from launching a new room profile to collaborating on the concepts. Design Challenges

When designing this space, besides style, I had two main challenges for my Havenly designer, Shelby G. First, I had recently purchased a beautiful light blue oriental distressed area rug from Overstock after I’d heard blue is “the new neutral”. However, when mixing in entry rugs and pillows, my pairings were terribly off! Shelby found rugs, a new lounge chair, throw pillows, and artwork that mixed perfectly with the area rug and made me love it all over again!

The second challenge was window coverings. Blindster’s affordable custom shades to the rescue, once again! The entire front and backside of our house is covered in windows, and the sun rises in front of our house and sets in the backyard. Lighting for a few hours during the day was right in our eyes which was unbearable at the diner table. We literally went three years without shades because we couldn’t decide how to cover so many windows. We love the views, but wanted full control on the lighting that entered our common spaces.

Covering our windows was also a designing for the sexes situation. My husband HATED the idea of curtains, but I had no idea how to cover an entire wall of windows including French doors and a transom. I gave up the wood woven shades that I wanted, in exchange for him allowing me to use curtain panels. I found Roman shades that added texture in the color of the wood shades I wanted, and the layered look is amazing! The the top down bottom up Roman shades allow us to precisely control the light, and my husband actually loves the curtains. He used to call them dust collectors, but these bring a light bright and airy feel to our home, and are thin enough to throw in the washing machine.
