Homemade Instant Pot Yogurt & My Favorite Instant Pot Recipes

how to make instant pot yogurt, and my favorite instant pot recipes for easy weeknight dinners and meal prep

So apparently, I’m now a yogurt maker. I don’t remember ever striving to make my own yogurt at home, but now I’m all passionate about it! It all started when I purchased an Instant Pot to start making fast, one pot weeknight meals, and realized that this 7-in-1 pot features a yogurt function!

* The Instant Pot is on sale today at Amazon for $50 off! I purchased 3 for friends and family for Christmas, especially the travelers on my list looking to make one pot meals in their RV.

A few months ago on Amazon Prime Day, I saw friends of mine on a local Facebook “mom’s stay connected” discussion group asking if the deal on the Instant Pot was “worth it”. I’d never even heard of this little pressure cooker before that day, yet the feedback was overwhelmingly a “yes”! They were also linking everyone to what they call, the cult community, the Instant Pot Community on Facebook for tons of advice and ideas. There were also several references to Pinterest for recipes, here in my Instant Pot board.

Favorite Instant Pot Features

  • The Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker and is much more safe than the stove top pressure cookers from decades ago.
  • What brings the pot to pressure is liquid, so you’re cooking meats, vegetables, and a liquid, often water or chicken broth. The pressure tenderizes your meat and the liquid keeps it super moist; however, the liquid can make the meat seem “boiled”. With the Instant Pot, they’ve added a sauté feature, so you can brown your seasoned meat before tenderizing it, sealing in the flavor and texture.
  • It also makes beans in no time and steams rice!
  • Recipes have more flavor and texture than a slow cooker, which often turns a dish into one note and a bit on the mushy side.
  • You can throw in frozen meats for a quick weeknight dinner, and even cook a whole bird {linked below}.
  • The main pressure cooker feature is primarily for meats and vegetables, making this perfect for preparing Whole 30, Atkins, or Paleo meals.
  • You can cook meats and veggies in batch in no time, allowing you to meal prep and freeze. I have a recipe below for shredding 6 pounds of chicken, yielding 14 cups of shredded chicken and 7 cups of chicken broth, perfect for the upcoming season of soups, stews, chowders, and chicken salads.
  • And then there’s the yogurt feature for making Greek style yogurt in batch. After the 8 hours of processing, sweeten with honey, sugar, or the sweetner of your choice and then add optional toppings!

How To Make Homemade Instant Pot Yogurt

I ended up purchasing the pot and have abandoned my slow cooker and stove top completely. I’ve cooked several meals in my Instant Pot, linked below, to rave reviews from my family and quickly moved on to test out the yogurt function. I read so many tips and tricks to making yogurt that I was so confused and had no idea where to start. Then I found this How To Make Yogurt In Your Instant Pot YouTube tutorial and realized it couldn’t be easier. I won’t reinvent the wheel here, so check out Frieda’s video {or printable version} and you’ll be on your way to making Greek style yogurt by the batches in no time!
