Book Review – The Baby And Toddler Cookbook

A couple of months ago, I posted a pic of califlower gratin to my Instagram and had a lot of people reach out to me for the recipe. It was actually a dish from The Baby and Toddler Cookbook, a cookbook I reference all the time for my little man! When John was ready to eat baby food, I searched Amazon for a book that was highly rated, full of healthy recipes, and included lots of inspiration on what to cook for each age group. I’m so hooked on this cookbook, that I figured it was time to share! The chapters are organized by age, so it takes out a ton of guess-work on what to feed your baby so you don’t get stuck in a rut of the same meals everyday.

While this cookbook is amazing for it’s recipes, I often refer to it for all of the valuable tips – for example, did you know that a baby can have egg whites before one, but cannot have egg yolks until after their first birthday? There are so many useful tidbits in this book, that if I’m ever in question about feeding my baby a particular ingredient, I simply search for it in the index, go to the page that uses the ingredients, and then find out what age group the chapter falls into. Other useful tips include chopping up small fruit like blueberries because they are super slippery and can pose a choking hazard and how to freeze baby food.

The useful tips aside, the recipes are good enough for adults to eat. They start out with simple 2-ingredient recipes for babies that are ready to start eating pureed foods, and then move on to more complex recipes to introduce your toddler to many different flavors such as Indian Spiced Lentil Stew and Califlower Brown Rice Gratin {I refuse to have a picky eater on my hands}. The recipes range in difficulty, so if a dish is going to take some time, I usually triple up on the portions and freeze the leftovers.

I HIGHLY recommend The Baby and Toddler Cookbook for anyone that has a baby or toddler, or a little one on the way. This cookbook is the perfect baby shower gift for anyone that’s expecting!
