Lemonade Themed 1st Birthday Party

Lemonade Party Invitation

Yes, we like to bite off almost more than we can chew. After the crazy 3 years we’ve had, we decided, let’s have a housewarming first birthday party two weeks after we move in, before we’re even out of boxes lol. Well, little man turned one the day we moved in and he deserved a big celebration. I think we’re all still recovering from all of the excitement!

John’s first birthday had to be a lemonade themed party! When I was pregnant with him I was addicted to Simply Lemonade {chugged it daily!} and in February when he was in the hospital with pneumonia and finally started to come around again, he got a hold of my plastic cup of lemonade and started chugging it. The video of him all hooked up to monitors is too sad to share, but boy was he cute attacking my glass of lemonade. It was a wonderful moment of him acting like himself again. I also accidentally planted a lemon tree the year he was born lol, so a lemonade themed party it was! I thought it was better than a character themed party since it was part housewarming as well. The mason jar lemonade party invitation by LemonadeDesignStudio at Etsy set the vintage style and color palette for the entire party.

I found these amazing lemonade printables at Etsy {thanks MimisDollhouse for offering up a blue boy version for me} and had my mom and mom-in-law cut them up before the party. It takes a village to throw a party lol. Now, the pic above was supposed to look like this oh-so-popular pin at Pinterest, but when you’re still decorating at 1:15 for a party that starts at 1, you just have to give up at some point LOL.

My sister was in charge of the fabric bunting, the cake, and almost everything else LOL. That poor girl got worked! I found four pieces of fabric {1/2 yard each} that coordinated well with the invitation and cut about 1/2 inch strips lengthwise. They were tied from the middle around a piece of twine and then hung above the table. The “Lemonade Stand” printable is part of the same set as his banner, the paper straws are also from Etsy, and the mason jars, flower cut-out lids, footed beverage dispenser and burlap runner are all from my fav home shop, One Kings Lane! We added a 6 pack of applesauce squeeze pouches for all of his toddler friends that may not be interested in the barbeque we were serving, an idea that I stole from another 1st birthday I went to earlier this year. There were supposed to be few more things on the table, but again, we ran out of time LOL.

I am so in love with this Happy Birthday cake flag banner, courtesy of the the super sweet and talented LingeringDaydreams at Etsy! Besides the invitation, it was one of the first things I pinned towards the party and HAD to have it. The banner gives the cake a super cute vintage flare, is printed in black onto heavy weight cream card stock, is hung from bakers twine in a color of your choice between two bamboo supports, and uses nontoxic adhesives. I even liked LingeringDaydreams’ cake pic at Etsy, which I totally copied except with dots of frosting between the layers rather than piping {my sis’s idea, of course}.

I’m not sure where I got the idea to have a homemade honeycomb candle, but sure enough, I was able to find one on Etsy. The color and style was perfect for the simple smash cake my sister made, finished off with a bit of fabric used for the bunting. It was perfectly adorable!

Baby boy LOVED his smash cake, and really wanted to grab that lit candle lol. Luckily, I was a little faster than he was! The highchair name banner was also part of the lemonade printables set. Thanks also to my sis for taking all of the party pics!

Lemonade First Birthday Party

John and I snuck away for a little alone time about halfway through the party. Poor thing moved into a new house on his first birthday and because he was 1, he also moved to a new room at his day care. So many changes in this guy’s life and then a big party with lots of friends and family in and out of our house. It was nice to have a few minutes together just to catch our breath.

Our day was so full of love from friends and family that came from near and far. We are so very lucky!

Lemonade First Birthday Party Cookie Favors

Thank goodness John’s birthday is during Girl Scout cookie season, because that was one less thing for me to make. We wrapped their Savannah Smiles lemon cookies in cellophane bags and then attached one of the printables favor tags with twine to each. To save on time, and get the perfect circle, I picked up this 2″ circle punch to cut out each favor tag.

oh my gosh, that’s so nice to hear, thank you! it was so difficult to get everything together in time for the party, but now that i have a kid, i’m starting to {attempting to, i should say} ease off on being a perfectionist. there is so much more that i wanted to do, so it’s nice to know you liked it, thank you!
