OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review

From OPI’s press release, “OPI celebrates color with the Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Inspired by the country’s range of stunning shades – as seen in vivid tulips, windmill-dotted hillsides and bustling canals – the collection’s twelve shades offer a mixture of sophisticated neutrals and highly-pigmented brights.”

This was such a fun collection with something for everyone. For comparison, I used two coats of each color and topped each with a Quick Dry Top Coat. Read on for my thoughts of each color including a list of my favs.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Kiss Me On My Tulips

Kiss Me On My Tulips – I love this nearly neon hot pink creme nail polish. If you’re not brave enough to wear the “bright colors” trend that is so popular right now in an outfit, try it on your nails. Kiss Me On My Tulips is definitely one of my favs of this collection.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Red Lights Ahead... Where?

Red Lights Ahead… Where? This is such a beautiful coral creme red. I always say, every girl needs a creme red polish in their collection, so if you don’t have one already, Red Lights Ahead… Where? would be a fun one to add to your nail polish drawer!

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - A Roll In The Hague

A Roll In The Hague – This is such a bright fun creme orange. It went on a little thick and streaky at first, but it evened out nicely after a couple of coats. If you’d like to add a little Tangerine Tango to your look, Pantone’s 2012 color of the year, A Roll In The Hague is the perfect shade.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Pedal Faster Suzi!

Pedal Faster Suzi! I’m not so wild about this pink shimmer. It looks like more of a frost than a shimmer to me, and I’m not too wild about light pink, or frost, but I know my nieces would LOVE this color!

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Dutchya Just Love OPI?

Dutchya Just Love OPI? I’m pretty sure this plum purple nail polish with a rose gold shimmer is my fav in this collection. I am wild about a barely there gold shimmer these days, and I love a purple nail polish that doesn’t look black for spring/summer, so Dutchya Just Love OPI? will be in heavy rotation in my nail polish collection.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Vampsterdam

Vampsterdam – I love this deep purple metallic, but I feel like I’ve seen it before. In fact, this is one of my favorite colors of all time, so I actually think I have a few shades like it already. It’s not terribly unique, but I do love the barely there pink metallic undertones.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Did You Ear About Van Gogh?

Did You Ear About Van Gogh? I LOVE that OPI added a very neutral nude greige {gray + beige} nail polish to this collection. I’ll be wearing this on it’s own and as the base of many nail art designs to come, I’m sure.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Thanks A Windmillion

Thanks A Windmillion – This sea green creme nail polish is by far the most gorgeous color of the entire collection. It reminds me of beautiful sparkly sea glass, so with that said, there are so many beautiful shimmers in this collection, that I wish this had been one of them. I’ll definitely be wearing this one again and again, as the color is so striking and unique.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Wooden Shoe Like To Know?

Wooden Shoe Like To Know? This was my least favorite color in the bottle, mostly because I’m not wild about browns right now, but once I applied this shimmery shade, it was much more beautiful than I had anticipated. I’d say it’s much more of a sparkly mauve with a rose gold shimmer, than a chocolate-brown, as described by OPI.

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - I Have A Herring Problem

I Have A Herring Problem – This was by far my most anticipated color of the Holland collection. I am so in love with this shimmery sea-green-blue nail polish with a hint of gold and silver shimmer!

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - I Don't Give A Rotterdam!

I Don’t Give A Rotterdam! I realy like steal-blue shimmer; however, it’s similar enough to I Have A Herring Problem, which is by far my fav of the two. I also thought this color was a bit too frosty for my taste!

OPI Holland Spring 2012 Collection Swatches Review - Gouda Gouda Two Shoes

Gouda Gouda Two Shoes – I LOVE a medium rose pink nail polish and this shade is gorgeous with the gold shimmer. I’ll definitely be wearing this one quite a bit this summer.

Overall, I thought this was an amazing 12 piece collection with a wide variety of shades from super bright cremes to beautiful neutral shimmers. My favorites include Kiss Me On My Tulips {which is crazy because I’m not a huge fan of pink}, Dutchya Just Love OPI?, Thanks A Windmillion and I Have A Herring Problem.

I haven’t used OPI in such a long time, so I was really impressed with the changes that they’ve made in their brushes. The are wide and thick, which hold on a lot of polish and it goes on in fewer strokes. I do wish the brush was more rounded at the end so that it forms easier to your cuticle, but I’m still a bit fan of the improvements. As far as application, I had a bit of trouble with the dark cremes and often had to apply a heavy coat to even out the streaks, but they dried very smooth. The lighter colors were perfect, either because the formula is a bit different, or because you don’t notice imperfections as much.

What are your favorite colors in the collection? See any you’d like to pick up?

The products mentioned in this post were sent to me by the merchant or their PR company. All opinions are 100% my own. For more info, please view my full disclosure policy.

  1. Love getting to see each of these actually on your nails (as opposed to just looking at the bottles) – that neon pink & the seaglass green are on my list…thanks for sharing! :)

thanks so much for the comment. it’s nice that the swatching is appreciated because boy does it take time from polish to posting with a 12 piece collection. the two you love are my two favs. such a fun collection!

  2. I love these, I would wear every single one.

So glad you did this review! I’ve been curious. There are so many gorgeous colors! My faves are: Red Lights Ahead… Where?, Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, Did You Ear About Van Gogh?, Dutchya Just Love OPI? and Thanks a Windmillion! I haven’t used OPI in a while, but I definitely need to get a few of these!

    • jennifer says:

wow, so many stunning options! So question: do you paint yoru nails like a million times in one day? always wondered. :)

    • jennifer says:

i wish! with a full time day job and two blogs, i only have time to paint once a week lol. usually sunday afternoons for manicure mondays :) happy you like the options and good to hear from you :)

  6. Lauren says:

I love all of them! They’re so pretty!

  7. Debbi says:

Really like Kiss Me On My Tulips and (surprisingly!) A Roll in the Hauge. I also kind of like Thanks a Windmillion. Like you, I need a lighter purple for spring, but I’m not sure I like it with the sparkles. May have to do more polish shopping!

    • jennifer says:

we have the same favs!!! love those colors!

      • Debbi says:

I got those two colors and really like A Roll in the Hague, more than I thought I would. Just got my nails done at the salon and I almost had them done in Thanks a Windmillion, but ended up with a different color that I thougt was part of the collection, but don’t see it. It’s a gray with silver shimmer, pretty but not a color I’d buy.

  8. Caroline says:

SOOOO purrrty! Too bad OPI cost so much. It would cost over $100 to own all 12 of the colors. :(

  9. Laya says:

Thanks for sharing these lovely colors! I love your blog & the ideas i get from your manicure monday section. I was wondering if you had any tips for removing glitter polishes? I love the effect but find that it is tricky to remove.. i think it took me at least half an hour and countless cotton pads!

    • Cora says:

Try using some felt instead of cotton pads! :)

    • jennifer says:

i’m so happy you love my blog and that the manis inspire your own :) for glitter manicures, I take one or two large cotton balls, rip them into 5 pieces, put some polish remover on each (enough to soak it, but not dripping wet), stick a piece of cotton on each nail, and let it soak. i rub the cotton into the polish every half minute or so to work the remover into the layers and then it should come off easily after a couple of minutes of soaking. some people stick the remover soaked cotton on their nails and then cover their fingertips in foil (also known as the foil method), but i don’t bother with the foil since i don’t over-soak the cotton balls. i will be doing this a lot next weekend since i have a glitter collection coming up lol. i may include this reply as a tip at the bottom of that post lol. i hope this helps!
