Kerastase Elixir Ultime Review

Its rare that a product comes along and changes my everyday routine. In fact, the hair products that I use everyday, I’ve been using for about 3 years with a repurchase as soon as I run out. I love trying new products, but I haven’t found one in a long time that was worthy of switching up my hair care habits… until now! Beauty product discoveries like Kérastase Elixir Ultime is why I LOVE my Birchbox {check out my Birchbox review}.

Kérastase Elixir Ultime – a maize, argan, camellia, and procaxi blend elixir – gives me something that I’ve always wanted with my hair – movement. I have thick, wavy, over-processed, over-dyed, dry hair and after I straighten my hair, it is a “piece”. It all literally moves as one piece, like a wig. I’ve been using a styling creme on towel dried hair that helps manage frizz, but leaves my hair dull and lifeless.

I have NEVER had beautiful, silky, soft movement until now. Kérastase’s lightweight elixir literally dissolves into my hair and makes it feel “normal” and with a “normal” shine, rather than thick straightened hair that happens to have one of those oily high shine serums sitting on top of it. I avoid the serums because although my hair is dry, my scalp is oily a day after I wash it and I don’t like washing it everyday.

I honestly can’t stop running my hands through my hair. I LOVE the way my hair feels, yet I can’t feel the product at all. Kérastase Elixir Ultime also won the “Elle Approved” award for one of “The World’s Best Beauty Products”. I may be able to grow my hair out now that it has natural movement and shine. I would always chop my hair once it got to my shoulders because I hated the lack of movement.

Review Points

  • Price – this product is a little pricey at $54 a bottle; however, you get 125ml and a little bit goes a long way {see E-bates deal below}.
  • Formula – comes out of the bottle thicker than a liquid and disappears in the hair, completely weightless. My hair feels lightweight, silky, and for the first time ever, healthy.
  • Directions – I add 2 pumps to the ends of towel dried hair, and then it gets worked into the rest of my hair as I brush and blow dry. I also added a dab into the ends of my hair after I straightened it, and then brushed through.
  • Smell – this has a very light and clean scent, almost almond scented.

I am finally catching up on your blog. I haven’t been here very much since you made the switch over from your other website. Anyway, I have thick hair too and my hair also gets oily after one day. I’ve been using Kerastase hair products since 2004, and as a result, I have been able to keep my hair at a very long length for years. Kerastase products are worth every dollar. The only other brand that I swear by is Alterna. Their Caviar line is great.
