Previous: My bloggin bud Trina and I were chatting it up on Twitter a few months ago about our favorite fashion and beauty clubs, and we couldn’t believe there wasn’t a club for nail polish. We were dreaming about starting one of our own until another Twitter bud (I wish I could remember who) chimed in to let us know about Julep, a monthly subscription service for nail polish! I like to consider myself a nail polish connoisseur lol, so I really hoped this club would be worth my monthly dollars!
Julep is many things – a chain of boutique nail salons in Washington state, a “4-free” nail polish brand (free of formaldehyde or formaldehyde resin, toluene and DBP), and a nail polish subscription service offered up to their “Julep Mavens”. It’s similar to other clubs in that you take a style quiz to determine which colors will look best on you, and my profile determined that I am a “Bombshell” (love that!). For $19.99 a month, I will get $40 worth of Bombshell products, which usually includes two runway ready nail polish colors and a treatment such as hand cream or cuticle oil.
Although my style profile defined me as a Bombshell, I can select from other fun Julep Maven styles any month including American Beauty, Classic With A Twist, It Girl and Boho Glam. Each month you will get a chance to preview your Maven box online and at that time, you can decide to switch to another profile’s box or skip that month.
Julep was nice enough to send me their Bombshell and Classic With a Twist January boxes, both of which are previewed below. Keep reading for info on our contest, my review, and a “get your first month of Julep for only $5″ promo code!!!
January’s “Classic with a Twist” Box
January’s Classic with a Twist box came with two nail polishes including Taylor and Maya, a full size Age Defying Hand Brightener, and two sample size hand creams with SPF 30.
Maya is a gorgeous super pale metallic peachy pink nail polish with a hint of silver shimmer. This was my first stroke of Julep ever and I literally OOLed (OOOHHHHed out loud). This polish does have visible brush strokes that aren’t too visible IRL and it’s definitely something I could easily ignore for the color and effect I get from this nail polish!
Taylor, an editor’s favorite at Allure.com in 2010, is somewhere between a periwinkle and denim. I have no idea how Julep got a purple blue creme nail polish so bright, but this color is so fun and different!
January’s “Bombshell” Box
January’s Classic with a Twist box came with two nail polishes including Carrie and Megan, a full size Age Defying Hand Brightener, and two sample size hand creams with SPF 30.
Carrie, as seen in Allure.com, The Bonnie Hunt Show and 425 Magazine, is a beautiful cotton candy light pink creme.
Megan is a GORGEOUS blue green metallic nail polish with a silver shimmer, defined at Julep as “a playful and sultry Mediterranean aquamarine shimmer”. This color is so perfect for the upcoming spring/summer seasons.
My Thoughts On Julep
It truly was love at first stroke with this nail polish brand. I have no idea how they got all of their colors, including the palest of pinks, so bright. Every color seems to have this beautiful “glow” that I can’t quite describe, but was lucky enough to capture in each of the pics above. Beyond their amazing nail polish, I also love that Julep is “Powered by Girlfriends” – Julep donates $1 from the sale of every Julep Nail Vernis to organizations that empower women.
Julep Maven Promo Code
Use code FABFATALE to get your first month of Julep Maven for only $5, usually $19.99 for $40 worth of product. Once you become a Maven (purchase your first box) you will get a referral link to invite friends. You will earn 1 credit when a referral makes their first purchase, and every 2 credits earns you a free month. You will also get 20% off Julep purchases (not valid on gift certificates or Maven subscriptions).
I went for this deal because I really wanted January’s Boho Glam set, in addition to the two boxes I already had lol, because it included a beautiful sunny yellow nail polish. After previewing February’s Golden Globes themed Boho Glam set, including a gold glitter and a cobalt metallic nail polish, I’m pretty sure I’m going to be a Maven for much longer than my $5 month lol.
