I have to admit I wasn’t as into the royal wedding as the rest of the world. I knew I’d watch the repeat, and couldn’t wait to see her dress, but I just couldn’t imagine waking up at 5:00 am to watch it live and then go straight into work for the day. This Union Jack manicure was actually my friend Kathy’s idea – she was bummed that I wasn’t in the spirit of the “holiday” and thought I needed to do something festive! I think I redeemed myself when I sent her a pic of the finished product! You know I’m on board for a fun manicure anytime – so it was a royal compromise :)
To get this royal wedding inspired Union Jack manicure I started with two coats of China Glaze First Mate. Next, I created an asterisk shape using China Glaze Snow (last seen in my Alexa Chung palm tree manciure) and then used a Red Stripe Rite for the red inner stripes. It was actually pretty easy, but I did need help painting my right hand. Top off with a coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.
Ok, I do have to address the wedding for one second – how gorgeous was Kate Middleton? I have to admit, when I found out she wore my favorite designer of all time, Alexander McQueen, I was a little bummed that I didn’t watch it live with the rest of the world. If only he’d lived to see the day! Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, did an amazing job and deserves all the praise she’s been getting for Kate’s dress. Alexander McQueen’s designs are usually a bit dark and mysterious, but this dress was Kate Middleton meets Grace Kelly meets Alexander McQueen. It was classy and perfect and I’m so happy that she went with a British designer!
