Manicure Mondays – Feather Nails

My sister is back in Florida visiting from Washington and we’re having so much fun together! She did the way popular lace manicure for me last month and I dared her to come up with another manicure as fun as the last. We ended up in Michael’s with a cart full of feathers and boas and this is what we came up with.

Feather Manicure DIY Ingredients:
- Bag of {faux} Feathers
- A Base Coat
- A Base Color
- Thick Clear Top Coat
- Tweezers
To recreate this look, first prep your nails with a base coat – I used Essie’s Protein Base Coat, followed by a base color. Color Club was nice enough to send me their Untamed Luxury Collection and I was so excited to use Pretty in Platinum. The pearly white silver contrasted beautifully against the exotic pattern and color in the feathers.
Next, top one nail with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and press a feather into the nail using tweezers quickly before it dries. With a small pair of scissors, cut the feather around the edges that extend past the nail. Apply one more coat of Seche Vite to secure the feather onto the nail. Repeat for the remaining nails.
Thanks so much to my sister for another fun manicure! So what do you think of this manicure? Would you wear this look?

SO HOT! Totally going to try this. I’m guessing you got a bag with some smaller feathers? I know Michael’s has all kinds of feathers, from big to small…
im so happy you like it! yes, the bag came with a variety (shape, colors, sizes) of feathers. the feathers we used were about 2 inches long, but we cut them to fit the nail, after we stuck it to a layer of top coat. thanks so much for the comment. i hope you’ll try it and i hope you’ll comment back with a link to a pic :)
I went to my friend’s boutique today to gather some beautiful feathers and you can get any size, it will work just like “theLooksForLess” replied :). My girls are about to be over in 1/2 hour and i’ve got the monday night movies ready and some fun fun fun is about to happen! Can’t wait to see how the mani turns out. I might do a pedi too!! :-D

i hope you’ll try it! please comment back with a pic if you do :) thanks for the comment :)
I did this manicure with black and white spotted feathers and silver underneath, it came out AMAZING, so unique. Looked nice because i wear a lot of black as a staple color. I love that you and your sister came up with it, I still paint my nails with my sisters, too. I have pictures of how it came out that I’d love to share. And I’m wondering, I also like the lace manicure, do you have any other crafty, big pay-off recommendations? I like the idea of blending gradients too – have you tried this, and .. if you have, what’s your favorite method? sponge, layers, etc. thanks for posting so many great ideas, i’ve already shared them (and my feather nails) with my friends and family. was visiting my mom and she helped me trim the feathers on one hand and did a clear coat, love the bonding over fumes, age old tradition!
i am so happy to hear that you tried this. i always love the feedback as to who has tried what from my site :) can you upload a pic to twitpic and comment back to this post with a link to the twitpic? i would love to see it!
i havent tried any gradients yet – if you have any recommendations, id love to hear. the only gradients ive ever seen have been done with glitter and im not much of a glitter fan. i thought about doing a silver glitter gradient over white polish for new years, but that is probably the only time that i would wear glitter, with the exception of here and there.
thank you so much for sharing my blog with your friends and family. that is so awesome! i love that! bonding over fumes lol. i love it!
is there a way to do this to make it look like peacock feathers?? thats my favorite kind.
i guess you will have to find some peacock feathers. that would look great. if you do that, i hope you’ll comment back with a link to a pic. would love to see that. thanks so much for the comment! :)
WOW! These are amazing!! Where did you get the feathers? A craft store? Very inspiring! Thanks so much!!
hey andrea, thanks so much! i picked up a bag of feathers at Michael’s. the colors in person are so beautiful! you should try this and if you do, let me know :) thanks for your comment!
That’s so clever! :O And the lace one is too! I definitely have to try this sometime….unfortunately, I need to grow my nails a bit more first (damn my nail biting habits!)
hey natalie, i hope you’ll try both and comment back to this post with a link to a pic. these would look great on short nails. i love designs on short nails. thanks so much for your comment! hope you’ll keep in touch!
Hi! These were such an inspiration. Sort of tedious, but check out my results: http://iexhalevanillalace.tumblr.com/post/3108894517
Not as perfect as yours, but close :)

thats amaze jennif girl u got some serious talent
awww, lucy!!! thank you! come back so i cn do your nails! i miss you and hope you had a very happy birthday!
Be right back! Running to Michaels! haha
In all seriousness, I stumbled upon this look and I was so excited to see how easy the steps were! At first glance I thought the feathers were painted on. I think I’m going to try and wear my nails like this all the time. So simple and so stunning!
You have gorgeous nails, by the way. How do you get your cuticles to look so neat?
hey danielle, thank you so much! that is so nice of you to say! i hope you’ll try this and comment back with a link to a pic! i actually don’t do anything to my cuticles. im shocked when i get such nice comments on my nails. about the only this i do for my nails is always wear Essie’s protein base coat. it helps with nail health and prevents staining :) thanks for the comment.
i am absolutely going to do this look. I have a Michael’s near my house – were the feathers a certain brand?? xoxo
no certain brand. just a bag of pretty feathers. fake, i hope lol. have you tried this yet? would love a pic if you did :)
